Parkwood Knolls Home Renovation
This project was a to-the-studs 2000 sf walk-out basement renovation. The goal was to transform a chopped-up floor plan into a space that this family of five could use for entertaining the hockey team and friends as well as provide a bedroom suite for their teenage son. The home is located on a pond that is popular for ice hockey in the winter and the family's children were approaching their teenage years. The girls needed their own rooms on the main level and the son needed his own room which we located in the basement. A full bathroom was added for the son's use, and his bedroom was completely renovated, adding a walk-in-closet. The lower level also includes a large exercise room (not pictured), a billiards room that is connected to the entertainment room with large openings and a double sided gas fireplace. A full wet bar / kitchenette was added so that ground-level entertaining would be easy.
An original powder room was renovated to preserve the unique basket-weave floor tile and integrate the design with the updated traditional style of the home. The laundry room was completely updated with new cabinetry all around for efficient storage. The former floor plan of the home had a very long, narrow hallway with doors off of it. The new plan of the lower level is has large openings between the games room, the family room, and the wet bar, and feel of the narrow hallway has been eliminated. Through out the house, new windows were installed and new siding replaced the old, shingle siding. On the main level a previously under-utilized three-season porch was converted to a four-season sun room and is now used by the family more frequently. The owners plan to add a main level deck off the sun room in the future.
